An evergreen scandent shrub with white latex; branches circular, green and smooth. Leaves opposite or in whorls of 3-5, oblong, obovate, elliptic-lanceolate or oblanceolate, 6-12 cm x 3-4 cm, apex acuminate, base cuneate, entire, coriaceous, glabrous or pilose on veins abaxially, lateral veins flattened; petiole short, ca. 5 mm long. Inflorescence axillary or a terminal cymose panicle; peduncle short; bracts deciduous. Flowers actinomorphic, bisexual, 5-merous, hypogynous, large, showy, bright yellow, 9.5-10.5 cm long and 10-13.5 cm across; pedicels 6-10 mm long. Sepals 5, free, unequal, 1.5-2.1 cm x 0.2-0.9 cm, lanceolate-ovate, acuminate, glabrous. Corolla yellow; tube funnelform, 6-8 cm long, proximal half cylindrical, ca. 3-4 cm long and ca. 0.5 cm in diameter, distal half campanulate, ca. 3-4 cm long and ca. 3.5 cm broad with orange lines inside, narrow part with fringed scales forming a cone above stamens; limb 10-13.5 cm across, lobes 5, orbicular-rotundate, 4.5-5 cm x 4.2-4.8 cm, glabrous. Stamens 5, inserted in the throat; anthers ca. 5 mm long, narrowly triangular acuminate, base shortly sagittate; filaments very short; stamens covered with fringed scales above and pilose with white hairs below filaments in cylindrical tube; anthers coherent with pistil head. Disc thick, annular, obscurely 5-lobed. Carpels 2, syncarpous; ovary ovoid, ca. 2 mm x 1.75 mm, unilocular with 2 parietal placentas, ovules numerous; style filiform, 3+ cm long; pistil head thick, with a membranous reflexed rim, apex conical, 2-lobed. Fruit a capsule, subglobose, 2-3 cm long with spines to ca. 7.5 mm long. Seeds many, compressed, winged or with a membranous margin.
